Bachelor of Music Education

Students in the Music Education Program combine their love for music and teaching. Rooted in interactive and experiential learning, students have opportunities to study abroad, conduct undergraduate research, and join ensembles. The opportunity to assist teachers in their classrooms throughout the program, as well as student teach for a full semester, will help students to build their leaderships skills, identify preferred teaching styles, and discover how to best meet the needs of learners.

I feel very confident that when I graduate from UWEC, I will be prepared to start my career as a music educator. The curriculum is very well rounded, we get a little bit of every musical experience. The faculty is willing to help us through the real life questions that not all textbooks answer about having a music program. Welcome to UW – Eau Claire! The university’s strategic plan targets research and the creative application of the arts to support health sciences and human well-being. If any of you would like to engage in faculty–student collaborative research to address these pieces of the strategic plan, refer to my sample listing of juried student presentations at national and regional conferences and to the current listing of grants underway to get ideas of the scope of work that is possible. In addition to my university teaching and research, I work as a music therapist in Western Wisconsin Music in Medicine and have volunteered several times weekly over the past 31 years at the Northwest Regional Juvenile Detention Center, the Eau Claire County Jail, Sacred Heart Hospital, and many long-term care centers in the Chippewa Valley. I would love to have you join me in integrating that work into our volunteer programs as well as service learning and grant research to engage in neuroscience applications related to the art of music to meet the needs of our community members while adding breadth and depth to your own educational experiences.

Thank you for your interest in the cello studio at UW - Eau Claire. We have an active studio with many enriching performance opportunities, including solo, chamber ensemble, cello ensemble, the electric cello quartet, viola da gamba, and baroque cello. Weekly lessons and studio classes focus on musical development, repertoire, and pedagogy. As a member of the cello studio, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in different musical genres and categories that will increase your professional portfolio. Welcome to UW - Eau Claire Bands!! We are excited that you are interested in learning more about the many wonderful musical experiences that are available to you. All Bands (Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, University Band, Jazz Bands, and Athletic Bands) are open to all students regardless of your major. We encourage you to visit campus and sit in on one of our rehearsals or come listen to the bands in concert!! Auditions for Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, and Jazz Bands take place the first week of classes each semester.
