Orchestras are open to all students enrolled at UW - Eau Claire. Come be part of the UWEC Orchestras!

Orchestra is very fun, you get to play with non music majors, as well as performance and other music majors at a high level with challenging music that pushes students just the right amount. I enjoy the fact that wind players are also in the orchestra, which really opens up all of the repertoire that we get to perform, and helps us learn about different instruments (for music education majors). There are a lot of opportunities to have leadership positions and work your way up to the front of the orchestra. - Hannah Sternberg, violin

Our Performances

University Symphony Orchestra

Prof. Nobuyoshi Yasuda, conductor

The University Symphony Orchestra is a select ensemble of 70 - 80 musicians consisting of both music major/minor and non-music major students. The orchestra's activities include performing a concert every spring and fall semester, and the annual Holiday Concert and Viennese Ball. The orchestra also performs full-staged operas and musicals for UWEC theatre, most recently outstanding performances of the opera, 'Marriage of Figaro' by W. A. Mozart and the musical, 'Sweeney Todd' by Stephen Sondheim. The orchestra performs extensive symphonic repertoire such as symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Tchaikovsky, and Mahler, and works by Debussy, Stravinsky, Richard Strauss, and Wagner.

Violin and University Orchestra

Hello, my name is Nobu Yasuda, I teach violin and conduct the University Orchestra. My passion is to share my love of music with people, especially with young aspiring musicians. Music touches people’s soul and transcends people’s spirit. It has been my great joy working with our enthusiastic students to make wonderful music. Cello and Baroque Orchestra

Thank you for your interest in the cello studio at UW - Eau Claire. We have an active studio with many enriching performance opportunities, including solo, chamber ensemble, cello ensemble, the electric cello quartet, viola da gamba, and baroque cello. Weekly lessons and studio classes focus on musical development, repertoire, and pedagogy. As a member of the cello studio, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in different musical genres and categories that will increase your professional portfolio.
